Robbie Burns Tea  —  a free high tea and reception is scheduled for Feb. 3, 2007, from 2 to 4 pm at Bill & Susanne McCaskill's home, 114 John Knox Road, Montreat, NC. If there is inclement weather, the tea will NOT be held.
About 100 members and prospective members attended the 2006 reception and enjoyed the delicious food and great company! Click to see 2006 Photos

Scottish Saturday at the Movies

A second season of movies and potluck dinners is underway this winter.  The free “Scottish Saturday at the Movies” in Montreat is for society members, guests and area residents. The potluck dinner starts promptly at 6 pm — bring either a salad, entree or dessert — with the movie starting about 7 pm. The January dinner/movie event attracted 58 people.
The Saturday, February 10th Movie is the little-seen "The Little Minister" (1933), a very early starring role for Katherine Hepburn. The film takes place in the 1840s in the Scottish town of Thrums. This film is not available currently on either DVD or videotape. Come enjoy this sweet love story by the author of "Peter Pan," J. M. Barrie. The potluck dinner and movie will be held at Upper Anderson, the second floor of Anderson Auditorium in Montreat.
The Saturday, March 3rd Movie is "A Man Called Peter," a popular 1950s film on the life of Peter Marshall, who traveled from his native Scotland to America, became a Presbyterian minister and eventually Chaplain of the U.S. Senate, before his untimely death in 1947.

Scottish Gala
The 2007 Scottish Gala will be April 14, 2007, at Assembly Inn in Montreat. The formal reception and dinner — suggested black tie or formal Scottish attire — will include Beef Wellington as the main entree. The program includes a musical presentation by Doug and Darcy Orr.

About 120 Society members and guests joined us on Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Assembly Inn, which was turned into a Scottish Castle for the Scottish Gala evening. Author, President of the Scottish Heritage USA and Chaplain of the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, Douglas F. Kelly was our special after-dinner 2006 speaker.
He is co-author with his wife of the recent book: Carolina Scots: An Historical & Genealogical Study of over 100 Years of Emigration. Click for the 2006 photo album.

Kirkin' o' the Tartan The 2007 Kirkin' o' the Tartan will be on Sunday, May 27 at Anderson Auditorium. The Rev. Jim Simpson will be the guest 2007 Kirkin' preacher. He is a native of Scotland and Senior Pastor of Northminster Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) in Roswell, GA.
At 10:15 a.m., the Montreat Scottish Pipes & Drums will perform at a Pipin' o' the Green outside Anderson Auditorium. The Kirkin' service starts at 11 a.m. Following the worship service, there is a special luncheon at Assembly Inn for which you can purchase tickets in advance or on that day (space available). Details on the luncheon costs and ticket purchase will be posted later this winter on this web site.
If you would like to carry a clan banner in the tartan procession at the beginning and end of the service, be sure to arrive around 10 a.m. to select the banner you wish to carry.

More than 1,200 worshippers joined us in Anderson Auditorium, Montreat, on Sunday, May 28, 2006, for the 25th Annual Kirkin' o' the Tartan. The guest preacher was Dr. Samuel Hugh Moffett, professor emeritus and noted author. Click to see the 2006 photos
