Scottish Gala The 2007 Scottish Gala was held on April 14, 2007, at Assembly Inn, which was turned into a Scottish Castle for the Scottish Gala evening in Montreat. The formal reception and dinner suggested black tie or formal Scottish attire included Beef Abernethy (i.e., Wellington) as the main entree. The reception included poached and smoked Salmon and other hors d'oeuvres. The program included a special musical presentation by Doug and Darcy Orr about the connection between the music of Scotland and Appalachia. The Orr’s are in the research phase of a new book, tentatively titled Wayfaring Strangers, based on the same theme as their presentation. The book is being planned with NPR’s host of The Shamrock & Thistle, Fiona Ritchie. Darcy will edit the book, while Doug and Fiona are co-authors. Doug retired last year as president of Warren Wilson College.
